Putting the wrong fuel in your car is a nightmare realisation for any car driver. As a company that has the responsibility of being your knight in oily armour, we completely understand the panic that occurs when your brain clicks and you have that, “Oh no… I haven’t…” moment.
So, let’s take a moment to make you feel a little better about that sinking-stomach feeling, because no matter how bad your wrong-fuel-scenario may be, we bet we can top it.
Earlier in the month, the Tesco station in Bloomfield, Bangor, began receiving an influx of phone calls from angry visitors to the garage, after the customers were subjected to wrongly labelled fuel.
When you realise that you have put the wrong fuel in your car, you have the ability to limit the damage occurred by stopping the car and refraining from allowing the fuel to circulate through the engine any further, before calling in expert help from our technicians to rectify the mistake. However if you are driving your car blissfully unaware of the problem at hand, the damage that can occur is enough to make any mechanic tear-up at the mere thought.
It’s believed that customers of the garage are likely to experience issues for the coming weeks as the figure for the number of customers affected by the mishap is unknown. The window of error for the contamination is believed to be relatively small and the petrol station closed as soon as they realised that the wrong fuel was being dispensed… not that that makes the fury any more diminished for those who suffered the consequences of the mix up!
Naturally, the Tesco garage in question has offered to cover the costs of the affected customers and have thanked those customers who spotted the error.
As expected, the damage to the vehicle varies depending on how much fuel was consumed and used by the vehicle, so those who drove further in their poor car will suffer the most, dependent on the model and the make.
One type of car that you wouldn’t want failing on you when you need it is a police car. You also don’t expect the drivers of said authority to be messing up something as simple as the type of fuel they are pumping into their cars… Well, your expectations would be wrong.
According to Avon and Somerset police, police cars in the area are topped up with the incorrect type of fuel at least once a month! This is the police we’re talking about! So, maybe you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself next time you catch yourself picking up the wrong pump.
With 29 incidents recorded of mis-fuelling in the force over the last two years, repairs to the vehicles have reached a grand total of over £5,000. That’s a fair amount of tax-payer’s moolah!
However, whilst we admit it’s a fairly easy mistake to make, we can only imagine the colossal embarrassment of the tail-between-the-legs moment when the guilty parties have to come clean to the Sergeant.
It’s all too easy to make the mistake of pumping the wrong fuel into your precious engine, as these recent news snippets illustrate perfectly. With such authorities making such mistakes, this can hopefully help to alleviate any embarrassment you experience as a result of making this mistake yourself; although we can’t promise that your mates won’t rib you a little bit!
